Profile Information

About Me
I have difficulty summarizing myself in forum boxes. I take humor very seriously and think life is too short not to laugh about it.
School or Gathering Affiliation:
Maine Primitive Skills School (as a student and hanger-on)
What do you do for a living?
Metaphorically, I tame wildebeests, herd cats, and lead many horses to water. Literally, I teach English to 11th and 12th graders. I also own my own business.
business, presonal, or fun website:
http://lyet.wordpress.com
What are your interests or hobbies?
Writing, reading, rock climbing, kayaking, running amok, dividing by zero, leaping tall buildings in a single bound
Do you have any skills that you specialize in?
Hemp weaving, woodburning, charcoal drawings, and other talents that would allow me to die in the woods surrounded by beautiful things. Also, I can solve the Rubik's cube, but I doubt that's the intent of the question. Beyond the woods, I am an adept creative writer and a competent web designer.
Is there something in practicular that you would like to learn? Let the mentors know..
Edible and medicinal plants, shelter building, bird language and identification, tracking, scout skills

I'm at Johnny's seeds for a while. Heirloom tomatoes are big. I can get seeds for older packets of seeds with less then the high germination rate that is the standard, and plan on starting an heirloom tomato garden. Anyone else interested?

I think Mark sounds a little like Tom Brown as he teaches throwing the Viking Battle Ax.

A lot of hard core no necked nugs gave Dakota grief for this one because it wasn't "survival", but it is a great way to share skills. Dakota has a sever form of dyslexia, he can't read, coupled with tourrette's syndrom. We have had to find creative…

It does. Remember that the tannic acid actually curdles the protiens i the skin, including internally. This creates the astringency, and also produces a biological "band aid" of a layer of your own tanned hide. I used tannic acid wash from Oak galls…

Wet wood ash, used as a paste and rinsed qickly to avoid chemical burns (prolonged direct contact over a minute) is a great way to remove pitch and other hard to get off yer skin adherents.
