Remembering the Wisdom of our Ancestors

I can't seem to figure out what this is. The fruit have 2-3 yellowish disc shaped seeds. Any ideas?

Hi Dave,

What field guide have you tried? Was the plant growing as a shrub/small tree? Do the fruit taste awful?

Be well,
Josh

I am using the Peterson's guides, plus trying different searches on Google. It is a shrub/small tree. Haven't tried tasting the fruit, but they do smell a little nasty. Thanks!

Dave,

Take a look at members of the Buckthorn family. I believe both the Peterson's Eastern Trees book and Peterson's Tree/Shrub book will have the species you are looking for. The fruit are not edible, but do have some medicinal applications.

Let us know what you find.

Hey Josh,

Definately a Buckthorn! Thanks for your help, I've been trying to figure this one out for quite a while.
